Electricity crisis

Electricity crisis

KARACHI:

Persistent power outages in Makli and Thatta disrupt daily routines and severely affect the region. Water and Power Development Authority’s (WAPDA) lack of concern is alarming and signals corruption and a lack of empathy for the locals. Frequent load shedding has serious consequences for the residents as it affects their business activities and household chores.

Power outages during school hours affect children’s learning as it is impossible for them to carry on with academic activities in the sweltering heat. Patients requiring critical care suffer as hospitals struggle to treat patients without electricity. The electricity crisis in the region is hampering progress and intensifying people’s problems.

The federal government must intervene and direct WAPDA and Hyderabad Electric Supply Company to resolve this crisis. Decisive action should be taken against corrupt and negligent officials. Thatta’s vulnerability to natural disasters necessitates uninterrupted electricity for safety. I urge authorities to prioritise restoring electricity and providing Thatta’s residents with basic facilities. It is the government’s responsibility to ensure Thatta’s citizens can live without the constant disruption caused by load shedding.
