KARACHI:
Last week, Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, who once could not even enter the US, was given a red-carpet reception at the White House. Mr Modi addressed the US Congress members and the Indian diaspora. He gloated over India’s achievement and expressed pity over Pakistan.
The West has turned a blind eye to India’s atrocities against the Muslims in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir because of India’s strong economy. It is now seen as an alternative to China by the West. On the other hand, our worthy Prime Minister finally met the International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief to plead for a bailout package. The foreign minister keeps heaping praises on the prime minister, while the prime minister is never short of praise for the PPP. Gone are the days when they were rivals.
Now both are in power and have together brought the country to its knees within a year. It is depressing to see that our neighbours don’t even consider us a competition anymore and instead pity us. The country is facing acute electricity and water shortage and the genie of inflation is totally out of control. Despite the government’s attempts to appease the IMF, it is still not convinced to give us a loan. Yet, the government has continued demonising the opposition and praising coalition parties. I wonder if our politicians will ever learn the lesson and think of the country and not themselves.
