Yoga for all

KARACHI:

Yoga is a comprehensive practice that unifies the body and consciousness, encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual aspects. Yoga originated in India but has gained global popularity. Yoga can have a transformative impact on individuals and communities during times of crisis and suffering. Promoting yoga, healthier choices, and lifestyles can combat physical inactivity and reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases.

Yoga is a relatively cheaper option for both physical and mental fitness as it does not require heavy equipment or specific spaces compared to other forms of physical activity. Therefore, yoga should be utilised to foster a healthier and harmonious society, especially in our country. It promotes fitness, flexibility, and strength to combat sedentary lifestyles. Additionally, its mindfulness and meditation components offer stress reduction and mental clarity, which are valuable in today’s fast-paced world.

Yoga also serves as a platform for intercultural dialogue and unity, encouraging inclusivity and respect for diversity. It brings people together, transcending boundaries and emphasising shared values of peace, harmony, and self-awareness. We must acknowledge the efforts of organisations, yoga teachers, and enthusiasts who are promoting it in Pakistan. Their dedication has created a thriving yoga community, nurturing a culture of well-being and mindfulness. The government, educational institutions, and non-governmental organisations should support and promote yoga. Incorporating yoga into school curricula, organising public sessions in parks and public spaces, and providing training and certification resources can harness yoga’s potential for societal betterment. These initiatives will contribute to a healthier and harmonious community.
