Repair road infrastructure

KARACHI:

Recently, I commuted through the Lahore to Karachi motorway, which was an extremely dangerous route to travel from especially at night. The potholes and cracks on the road made it impossible to drive safely on it. The lack of lighting and signage on the highway coupled with the narrow path further raised the risks of fatal accidents.

It was impossible to see the road ahead making it difficult for the driver to navigate the path and avoid accidents. The terrible state of highways across the country is a major public safety concern as they threaten the commuters’ safety and well-being. Poor infrastructure conditions also hinder economic growth as it becomes increasingly difficult to transport heavy loads of items from one place to another swiftly.

The National and Provincial Highway Authorities must immediately repair the motorways to improve travel conditions. Freight transport and public transport must have alternative routes to reduce congestion and potential accidents. Transport companies should be issued stricter guidelines on the appointment of drivers and course of action after accidents to ensure safer travel for the people.
