Frequent power breakdowns

KARACHI:

Over the past few months, there have been numerous instances of power outages in our area that have lasted for a few hours to several days at times. The lack of electricity has disrupted daily routines, hindered productivity, and caused financial losses for businesses. Vulnerable individuals, such as the elderly and sick face significant hardships due to the lack of access to essential electrical appliances and medical equipment.

Moreover, the lack of lighting in residential areas and on streets during power outages increases the chances of accidents and criminal activities. The disruption of the power supply compromises the functioning of critical infrastructure, such as hospitals, emergency services, and water supply systems putting lives at risk during emergencies. The concerned authorities should conduct a thorough investigation into the root causes of these frequent breakdowns. Identifying the underlying issues, whether they are related to infrastructure, maintenance, or other factors, is crucial to implementing effective solutions.

Power utility companies should prioritise infrastructure improvements and regular maintenance schedules to prevent electricity breakdowns. Investments in advanced technologies and equipment can help detect and address potential faults proactively. Utility companies should also enhance communication channels with consumers, providing timely updates and estimated restoration times during outages. We should strive for a better and more dependable electricity system that contributes to the growth and well-being of our community.
