Traffic problem

KARACHI:

Hub, which used to be a small town with a thinly scattered population, has now become a major industrial and commercial zone of Balochistan. It is considered the biggest industrial park with nearly 90% of the industries of Balochistan located here. This has contributed to the increase in population and vehicular traffic in the town.

Throughout the day, heavy vehicles carrying different items can be found on the roads. The rising number of rickshaws and motorcycles has further contributed to the traffic congestion in the town. Traffic jams and bottlenecks have become a norm and are affecting people’s daily routines. People are unable to reach their destinations on time, particularly those going to work or school. Many patients requiring urgent assistance have lost their lives because of traffic jams.

The worsening traffic situation has left residents feeling frustrated and distressed. People often get into fights on the roads, which become violent at times. The local administration is a mere spectator and does not act against traffic violators and unlicensed teenage drivers. The concerned authorities should immediately act against the problem. Besides reforming existing road infrastructure, heavy vehicles should have alternative routes to ease the flow of traffic.
