KARACHI:
As a university student, I have first-hand experience with the poor education standards at public universities in Pakistan. Most public universities lack funds, which prevents them from providing modern facilities, updating curricula, and recruiting qualified faculty members. Insufficient resources directly result in overcrowded classrooms, outdated infrastructure, and limited access to essential academic resources such as books, journals, and laboratories.
Many departments are understaffed leading to an increased workload on existing faculty members and compromising the standard of education. The persistent shortage of qualified professors and researchers is hampering the quality of teaching. Constant political unrest and strikes have further disrupted the academic calendar and caused prolonged delays in courses and examinations. This instability not only affects students’ ability to graduate on time but also hampers their confidence and motivation hindering their overall academic performance.
The deteriorating security situation within campuses is a matter of great concern. Instances of violence, clashes between student groups, and the infiltration of extremist ideologies threaten the students’ safety and well-being. The Higher Education Commission and other relevant authorities should pay attention to these issues and ensure stability at campuses so that students can concentrate on their education and achieve good academic outcomes. Universities should be equipped with the necessary resources to enhance infrastructure, update teaching methods, and attract competent faculty members.
