KARACHI:
On 5th May, I appeared for the 17th-grade examination for the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) at the government elementary college in Hyderabad. To my dismay, the exam hall lacked basic facilities such as fans and lights. The hot weather made it extremely challenging to sit through the entire exam.
The examination centre continued academic activities as usual, which was a distraction for the candidates undertaking the exam as students were noisy when walking down the hallways. Many other candidates expressed their disappointment over the poor facilities after the exam. The SPSC should provide better facilities so that candidates can undertake their exams without any distractions and perform well. Unfortunately, this is not the first time that an examination centre lacked proper facilities.
SPSC exams are a significant stepping stone for many people’s careers, and they deserve better support during this crucial time. The relevant authorities must realise that candidates cannot afford to appear for exams repeatedly. Therefore, they should ensure that all centres are equipped with necessary facilities such as air conditioners, fans, and lights. The centre should be free from disturbances. Sindh’s candidates have already suffered a lot due to corruption and negligence within the SPSC. SPSC must assume responsibility and ensure that these issues are avoided in the upcoming exams to offer some respite to the youth.
