SUKKUR:
A recent report published by the BBC underscored the threat of an impending collapse because of the ongoing political instability in Pakistan. The country is on the verge of an economic meltdown, society is politically polarised, millions are still recovering from last year’s devastating floods, terror attacks are increasing, and inflation is crushing the people who are struggling to put food on their tables.
Pakistan is experiencing extreme political chaos because of the politicians’ egos who are unwilling to work together for the betterment of the country. Their uncooperative attitudes seriously threaten the country’s survival. Society has become so politically divided that people are turning political differences into personal rivalries. Politicians using derogatory language against political opponents is causing a rift in society. National institutions are being maligned and people are losing confidence in the judiciary as well.
The Constitution is constantly moulded for personal benefits, which has led to a constitutional crisis in the country. Even elections may not put an end to the ongoing instability as the losing side will accuse the winning side of rigging and corruption. Consequently, we will continue witnessing the same political melodrama with no relief for the masses. Polarised politics amid serious economic and security threats will be devastating for Pakistan’s future. All political parties need to sit together to work out their differences and address the political, economic, and constitutional challenges engulfing the country.
