Limited accessibility

KARACHI:

A recent report by Pakistan Institute of Development Economics revealed that 83% of Pakistanis do not have access to libraries and some 60% do not have access to playgrounds. The absence of leisurely sources for the youth has hampered their overall growth and development. Only a handful of teenagers in urban areas have access to libraries and playgrounds.

The majority of the youth are unable to interact with people their age and engage in activities with them. Resultantly, mobile phones and social media have become the only source of leisure for people. They spend unhealthy amounts of time online, which is affecting their emotional, psychological, and physical health and wellbeing. The relevant authorities should invest in playgrounds and libraries across the country as they are crucial in the development of children and teenagers.
