KARACHI:
Petrol and diesel prices have risen to Rs.288 across the country. Fuel price hikes are affecting citizens’ purchasing power and causing price increases in other products as well. For instance, petrol and diesel are required to transport agricultural commodities from one place to another.
Public transporters have also raised fares further adding to people’s woes. But people’s incomes have either remained the same or they have been laid off by their employers in the backdrop of a worsening economic situation. Few employment opportunities and the absence of government welfare are inflicting difficulties on middle and low-income groups. Middle-class families are faced with severe financial stress as they are struggling to make ends meet.
The government must pay attention to the plight of the people and offer some relief to the public. Otherwise, people will be pushed over the edge resulting in complete chaos and unrest in the country.
