KARACHI:
Recent news reports have revealed that the construction work of the main canal at Hanna Lake has been halted indefinitely, which has resulted in the wastage of precious water resources. The construction work is essential for storing and recharging the Hanna Lake with the flowing water from Zarghoon Mountains and discharge from Wali Tangi dam. Unfortunately, the irrigation department has failed to complete the remaining construction work within the stipulated time resulting in continuous water wastage.
Given that Pakistan is already suffering from a water shortage and faces the risk of acute water scarcity, the concerned authorities must act immediately against the department’s negligence. I request all authorities including the Chief Minister of Balochistan to intervene and ensure appropriate action is taken to prevent the further waste of water resources at Hanna Lake.
