Education crisis

MUZZAFFARABAD:

The Azad Kashmir region is facing a major education crisis. The lack of proper infrastructure in schools is a significant problem because of the harsh weather conditions, especially during the winter months. It is extremely difficult for students to study in open-air classrooms without proper roofs. Schools also lack other basic facilities like clean water, toilets, and electricity, which makes it challenging for students to concentrate on their studies. This situation has led to a high dropout rate among students, particularly girls who are more vulnerable. Given the gravity of the situation, it is shocking to see the government of Azad Kashmir allocating a massive amount of money for the purchase of luxury cars for officials. This move raises serious questions about the priorities of the government and its commitment to improving the lives of its citizens, especially the children who are the country’s future. It is particularly disturbing to see such spending in a region where basic amenities like education are sorely lacking. The government needs to readjust its priorities and spend more on improving education by providing schools with more resources to train teachers and enhance the overall educational environment. Investments in education would have long-term benefits for the region’s economy and society. Poor infrastructure in schools in Azad Kashmir is not an isolated issue. It reflects on the larger problem of neglecting education in Pakistan. There is a need for a concerted effort from all stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organisations, and the private sector to address the country’s widespread educational crisis. The situation is extremely dire in Azad Kashmir and should be addressed on a priority basis to ensure that children in the region have access to quality education and a brighter future.
