Deteriorating environment

KARACHI:

In the last few years, Karachi has ranked among some of the most polluted cities in the world. The air quality is consistently deteriorating. As a resident of the city, I am deeply troubled by the amount of pollution we are exposed to daily. The hazardous air is not only affecting our physical health, but it is also damaging our mental well-being. It is becoming increasingly difficult to enjoy outdoor activities, and even simple tasks such as walking to work, or school have become hazardous due to the poor air quality.

One of the main reasons for the high pollution in the city is the increasing industrial and commercial activities. Factories emitting toxic gases and releasing chemical waste into water bodies have raised the incidence of waterborne diseases. The large number of vehicles on the roads has raised carbon emissions. Cutting down trees and plants to create factories, malls, etc is further degrading the environment.

Unfortunately, most people do not realise the threat of climate change and the deteriorating environment. In the coming years, our cities will become unliveable. Everyone needs to act urgently to reduce environmental damage by avoiding burning waste, disposing of waste in designated areas, planting trees, readjusting consumption habits and recycling. The government should invest in public transport, enforce stricter regulations on factories and vehicles that raise emissions, and create awareness about environmentally friendly practices amongst the general population. We should all work together to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable city for ourselves and future generations.
