KARACHI:
The fasting month of Ramazan has been half way through, but the government’s pledge of providing gas supply during Sehri and Iftar hours has not been fulfilled. The residents in nearly all localities of Karachi — be they the posh areas or under-privileged ones — have been suffering from low pressure or no gas at all during the time when Sehri and Iftar preparations are done. Many people in the locality where I live have had to buy cooked food from restaurants for putting on their dining table during Sehri and Iftar. It goes without saying that this is proving to be too costly, especially amid the backbreaking inflation and price hike. Some of my friends say that they have had to resort to LPG gas cylinders, which is not just too costly in comparison with the piped gas but also dangerous. I, therefore, request the government and the relevant authorities to seriously looking into where the problem lies and redress the gas supply issue so that the citizens of Karachi — already suffering from lots of problems — could at least pass the remaining fasting days without worrying about how they lit their stoves.
