KARACHI:
At a time when Pakistan is facing a grave economic crisis, requiring a cohesive effort by all politicians and the three constitutional pillars of the state, the country stands divided. Spreading hate and division was the policy of colonial rulers and cannot be the path to tread for men who want to be elected in a sovereign state. The country is facing financial challenges, which threaten its survival, yet the politicians are not ready to forego their egoistic pursuits.
The myopic mindset of a few has overshadowed sanity and resulted in a no holds barred game of thrones. Shockingly, they are totally oblivious to the damage it is causing to the very citizens whose votes get them elected and whose taxes fund their salaries and the institutions which were created to facilitate the public.
Quaid-e-Azam had laid down his vision for Pakistan as a modern democratic welfare state in which the Constitution would be the supreme law and state institutions will perform their designated roles with the objective of serving the people. Those at the helm have a duty to the people and should avoid exploiting religion to divide the people and nullify Quaid’s motto of unity, faith, and discipline. Today, his motto is largely missing as the people are divided and suffering because of the ineptitude of a few.
