Persistent gas outages have compelled citizens across the country to resort to alternative arrangements such as gas cylinders. Although gas cylinders provide temporary relief, they can cause dangerous accidents.
Improper handling of cylinders can result in sprains, strains, bruises, falls, and broken bones. Other hazards such as fire, explosion, chemical burns, cylinder blast, poisoning, and cold burns can occur if gases escape from the cylinder due to mishandling. In the past few years, over 7,000 people across the country have lost their lives due to faulty gas cylinders.
Several incidents of gas explosions have been reported within the last few weeks. If the government cannot ensure an uninterrupted gas supply, then the least it can do is to improve awareness about the hazards of gas cylinders and urge people to follow precautionary measures to prevent accidents.
