KARACHI:
For the last few months, Pakistan has been experiencing a flour crisis, which has caused panic among the masses. Prices of flour are skyrocketing forcing families to cut flour usage. Tharparkar does not produce any wheat and relies on nearby districts for flour supply.
Due to the aggravating crisis, neighbouring district administrations have limited the supply of flour to Tharparkar. This has raised distress among the people who are already living in poverty and struggling to eat two-square meals a day. Some people have travelled to other parts of the country in search of flour bags as local markets have reported shortages.
The Sindh government must pay attention to the plight of the people and provide flour bags either free of cost or at subsidised rates to low-income and vulnerable groups. The government must save the poor from starving and allow them to maintain some health and dignity.
