Internet access

KARACHI:

Today, internet access is extremely important to stay connected with the world and have access to global information. Many daily tasks such as financial transactions, updating passports, etc can now be done online through digital portals and services. Since the Covid pandemic, many organisations have resorted to working from home as much of the work can be done online. Importantly, freelancing has gained significant momentum as people can work for employers around the world from anywhere.

Educational institutes have also increasingly adopted digital methods and tools for teaching and learning making internet access imperative for everyone. Unfortunately, most people in Balochistan have little to no access to internet broadband services. People living in remote areas of the province have to travel long distances to use internet services. Balochistan’s residents are unable to benefit from the various opportunities offered by the digital world. Students are faced with significant difficulties as they are unable to access important study materials and resources.

Balochistan is already lagging in many areas compared to other provinces. Therefore, the provincial government and the Chief Minister should at least provide people with uninterrupted access to the internet so that people can connect with others across the country. This will empower the Baloch people and allow them to keep pace with the ever-changing world. Baloch youth should be facilitated through scholarships, bursaries, and training so that they can benefit from the digital world.
