KARACHI:
Digital fraud refers to the use of digital platforms and technologies to commit fraudulent activities, such as identity theft, credit card fraud, and phishing scams. One reason for the increase in digital fraud in Pakistan could be high inflation. The rising cost of living can compel people to turn to fraudulent activities to increase their income. Fraudsters prey on vulnerable individuals by promising them different things i.e., jobs, etc through digital platforms. The growing use of digital platforms for financial transactions has increased the risks of fraud and security breaches. Scammers easily set up fake websites or send phishing emails to lure people into providing their personal and financial information. A lack of awareness about the risks of digital fraud is another contributing factor to the increase in digital fraud in Pakistan. Most people are not aware of the risks associated with using digital platforms for financial transactions and do not know how to protect themselves.
To combat the increase in digital fraud in Pakistan, individuals and organisations need to take steps to protect themselves. This includes using strong passwords, being cautious when receiving emails or messages from unknown senders and regularly monitoring financial accounts for unauthorised transactions. Financial institutions and other organisations should implement stronger security measures, such as two-factor authentication and encryption, to help prevent digital fraud. Federal Investigation Agency and other departments can inform people about digital fraud and safety measures to reduce the risks of fraud.
