Climate action

KARACHI:

The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change adopted the concept of Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE). The six components of ACE include education, public awareness, training, public participation, public access to information, and international cooperation to deal with the climate crisis.

The main objective of ACE is to involve and empower all members of society to take climate action. It’s important for Pakistani society, especially the youth, to be aware of the drastic threat that climate change poses specifically to our country and play a responsible role in creating a climate-resilient world. The efforts to mitigate climate change will be futile unless the major stakeholders i.e., the people are not involved in the process.

In addition to major industrial reforms by boosting the use of renewable energy, it is also essential to promote an adaptive lifestyle by taking small but meaningful actions like water conservation, reduction in the use of plastic, reusing and recycling. People should be informed about climate threats and preventive measures through awareness campaigns and training. Non-governmental and civic organisations can play an important role in improving outreach and involving local communities in climate action. Collective action is crucial to limit the impact of climate change otherwise we will be faced with severe consequences in the near future.
