An occasional dream

An occasional dream

HYDERABAD:

Despite having acquired a bachelor’s in different subjects and attaining a PhD and MPhil, many graduates in Sindh find themselves in limbo due to an absence of job opportunities. Their quandary is worsened by the Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) which operates arbitrarily and does not follow proper hiring procedures.

Two years ago, the Sindh High Court suspended all functions at SPSC until the commission adopted transparency. By the end of 2022, SPSC was allowed to resume operations and the commission began interviewing candidates for different positions. Many candidates who undertook the interviews claimed that the interview process was unusual. For instance, a candidate who interviewed for the position of an English Language teacher was asked questions on the country’s historical affairs and current economic situation. The candidates should be questioned based on their degrees and the position they have applied for.

In addition, the hiring criterion keeps changing causing confusion among the candidates. Often candidates are declared ineligible to apply for some positions in one district but can apply to the same position in another district. I urge the SPSC to reform its policies and issue a clear criterion for hiring and follow a proper procedure for interviews and tests.
