KARACHI:
The poor road infrastructure across the country causes numerous accidents, injuries, and fatalities each year. One of the primary reasons for the dilapidated road conditions is the absence of maintenance. During the monsoon season, most parts of the country experience flooding and water accumulation due to inadequate drainage systems.
Roads are not regularly repaired or upgraded, which results in potholes, cracks, and other hazards that endanger drivers and pedestrians. Narrow pathways and the absence of road safety signs and traffic signals have further intensified the risks. The poor road conditions are also hindering economic development as it is difficult to transport goods efficiently. Delivery delays add to costs, which affects competitiveness and deters foreign investment.
The government should invest in road infrastructure and increase the budget for road maintenance. Traffic laws and regulations should be strictly enforced, and fines should be implemented for traffic violations. The government must take decisive action to improve road safety for the public and enhance the country’s economic prosperity.
