KANDHKOT:
From its inception, Pakistan has been faced with social, political, and economic challenges. The situation has deteriorated to such an extent that the country is on the brink of default. There is an absence of political and social consensus among the people, which is intensifying the ongoing crises.
Political consensus is crucial to achieving development and prosperity in a country. However, Pakistani politicians have remained involved in a power struggle for decades. Even during major crises, political leaders do not set aside their differences to work for the common good. Recently, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called an “All Party Conference” to address and pacify the ongoing crisis. Unfortunately, the major opposition party, PTI, was not very welcoming of the move and rebuffed the offer. The political upheaval in the country is contributing to the worsening social and economic situation.
The country is once again faced with security threats, which is evident through the attacks in Peshawar and Karachi. But, the country’s top leaders appear to have no regard for the country’s safety and sovereignty. In addition, the ever-increasing inflation is inflicting severe hardships on the masses, which will contribute to many other social issues. All stakeholders need to come together to address the different challenges gripping the country. Public welfare and the country’s progress and prosperity should be prioritised over self-serving political agendas.
