Laudable decision

Letter February 27, 2023
???

LAHORE:

The President of Pakistan National Movement, M. Yousuf Aziz, has rightly appreciated the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) recent decision for adopting Urdu as official oblique correspondent language. He said that LHC bench has rightly reminded all the government departments and functionaries to fulfil their constitutional obligations as per Article 5 and 251 of the Constitution of 1973. This obligation was due to be fulfilled by all echelons of government functionaries. However, due to indifferent attitude of concerned functionaries, the issue is still lingering on.

Along with other quarters, Mr. Yousuf Aziz has been trying hard to get this national cause materialised. Since 1981, he has been delivering lectures to various officials and training forums, especially at National Institute of Management and NEPA. These Institutes offer training courses to the provincial and federal government officers. Therefore, they should adopt the use of Urdu to improve trainees’ proficiency in the language so that they can communicate and connect with people smoothly in public offices.

Mr. Aziz urged the quarters concerned to fulfil their duties and abide by the Supreme Court’s decision of 8th September 2015 and LHC’s recent decision. Similarly, various office bearers of Tehreek Nafaz Urdu have lauded the decision. The decision will certainly help the common man to understand official correspondence as well as participate in government workings. The decision will also allow us to stablise our national language and protect our culture.
