KARACHI:
The Karachi University (KU) circular road, which is a pathway for various commuters, especially university students and teachers is currently in a deplorable state. The ongoing construction work in the area had already congested the road, which has been worsened by the unorganised placement of barriers for construction.
As a frequent commuter on this road, I often witness chaos and confusion among drivers on the road due to poor road conditions. The unorganised barriers have made it difficult for drivers to navigate through the construction site, particularly during rush hour or peak times. Drivers often do not know where to go, which has led to increased traffic congestion, delays, and serious accidents.
The worst affected by this situation are the students, faculty, and staff of KU who are forced to use this road daily. Many are compelled to park their vehicles far from the institute to avoid traffic bottlenecks.
Unfortunately, the same situation can be seen at most construction sites in the city. Arbitrary road closures to install drainage lines or repair roads have aggravated Karachi’s traffic problems. I urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action against the placement of barriers near the KU circular road to minimise traffic disruptions. Similarly, all other construction sites should be properly labelled and barricaded to avoid traffic jams and accidents.
