Mismanagement

KARACHI:

This year, events of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) are being held in different cities including Multan. For security concerns, all roads have been blocked, educational institutes have been shut down, and business activities have been partially halted by the management. Many people are already frustrated with the unprecedented levels of inflation and this is adding to their stresses.

Even though, the majority of the people look forward to PSL as it is one of the few sources of entertainment in the country, disruptions to daily routines are raising agitation amongst the people. Multan is considered a medical hub in south Punjab as many hospitals are located in the city. People from across the region come to Multan to seek medical treatment. Presently, many hospitals are partially inoperable and the roads leading toward them have been closed. The delays in critical healthcare assistance may threaten many lives.

Had the authorities devised a proper strategy to manage the traffic flow and provide security to the teams and the spectators, we could have avoided the current disturbance. Naturally, the relevant authorities cannot make any changes now that the matches are underway. But, they must form a proper traffic and security plan for the future to avoid inconveniencing the citizens. These events should serve as a pleasant memory for everyone and not become a hassle.
