Punctuality

Punctuality

KARACHI:

We are taught to be punctual from a young age. If students do not arrive at their institutes before the set time, they are penalised or punished. Despite this, most people seldom seem to honour punctuality in their daily lives. Perhaps, because we have not understood the spirit of punctuality.

Punctuality is a component of time management, which is an important skill for both our personal and professional lives. We must realise that by being punctual we are valuing our own time and mental peace. Arriving somewhere on time or finishing a task before the given time puts our minds at ease and leaves us with more time to do other things. Punctuality shows respect for others. In workplaces, it is particularly important to finish tasks on time to prevent holding other people off. This will also allow us to be more dependable and provide us with better opportunities. Punctuality also reflects professionalism, which not only sets a good impression but increases one’s chances of success.

At times, people are only punctual at their workplaces but avoid following the same form of discipline at informal social gatherings. We have all experienced delays at social events due to the tardiness of one person, which usually results in an unpleasant experience. Therefore, we should prioritise punctuality in both our personal and professional lives as it is the driving force of personal and societal progress.
