Dilapidated infrastructure

Dilapidated infrastructure

KARACHI:

The poor infrastructure of Quetta has become a major source of tension for citizens as traffic jams and road accidents have become frequent occurrences. Most roads are already potholed and narrow. Vegetable and fruit pushcarts occupying the roads further reduce space for vehicles to move resulting in traffic bottlenecks.

The dilapidated sewerage system has resulted in wastewater spills on the roads, which have further affected the roads’ conditions. It has also become a source of bacterial and viral outbreaks and caused foul smells in different areas. Pedestrians face many difficulties walking to and from places. During the monsoon season, the roads are inundated with water for days and become a hazard for pedestrians and motorcyclists.

The citizens of Quetta are already experiencing many challenges, and the poor infrastructure has further added to their difficulties. The provincial government and municipal corporation must pay attention to the issue and repair roads at their earliest. New drainage pipes should be installed to avoid urban flooding in the future.
