KARACHI:
Much of Sindh’s problems stem from poor governance, misuse of power and authority, and corruption within departments. This has amplified the public’s issues resulting in a worsening living standard, deprivation, and high levels of illiteracy and disease.
The deplorable state of education in Sindh is not hidden from anyone. Most school buildings were already in a dilapidated condition and were completely destroyed in the monsoon floods last year. Some areas are still inundated with water making it difficult for children to return to school. Presently, hundreds of schools in the province are lying unrepaired forcing thousands of children out of education. In Khairpur, students at a primary school are forced to study under open skies in the winter season. With summer fast approaching, it will be challenging for students to continue studying under the scorching heat.
The municipal representatives have paid little attention to the issue. Therefore, I urge the Chief Minister of Sindh and the provincial Minister of Education to resolve the education crisis in Sindh and repair school buildings in all flood-hit areas so that students can return to school.
