KARACHI:
Action research plays a vital role in the professional growth of academics and students. It encourages the growth of new knowledge to improve educational practices and problem-solving. Action research attempts to bridge the gap between conceptual and perceptual knowledge. By conceptualising the orthodox view of the practice-to-theory model, participants seek to convert their understandings.
One way to recognise a required problem for action research is to look back and change your understanding, i.e., self-study. It can be a starting point for action research. Working in action research via self-study is crucial to support teachers’ pedagogical growth. It can be done through practice and by highlighting collaborative learning activities.
In Pakistan’s education community, self-study research has not been broadly adopted due to the absence of training and other structural issues. The integration of action research into the education system can be highly effective. Despite the difficulties in implementing action research, an individual’s attempt to link theory and practice is essential for understanding and interpreting academic concepts and texts. One method to enhance teaching practices and professional development along with the inclusion of action research is the partnership framework between academia and the field. This allows self-assessment through which individuals observe their own theories and practices and correct them accordingly. Action research can improve both teaching and learning as it allows individuals to research while simultaneously operating in the field.
