KARACHI:
Cyberbullying is a growing problem that affects individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It involves the use of technology, such as the internet and social media, to harass, threaten, and humiliate others. The ability to remain anonymous or use fake identities has enabled bullies to target their victims without fearing any consequences.
We regularly come across cases of cyberbullying and its eventual effects. Victims are constantly blackmailed by bullies to extort money. Victims of cyberbullying experience many emotions including fear, anxiety, and depression. They can have trouble sleeping, difficulty concentrating and develop other physical symptoms. It can also lead to low self-esteem, self-harm and even suicide in severe cases. Cyberbullying has become extremely commonplace and instead of preventing it, most social media users participate in it.
Relevant authorities should inform people about the dangers of cyberbullying and ways to stay safe online through a campaign. Parents should monitor their children’s online activity and set rules and guidelines for internet usage. Victims of cyberbullying should be protected by the law and must be encouraged to speak out if they or someone they know is being bullied online. Cyberbullying is a serious problem that can have a devastating impact on individuals. All of us need to take steps to prevent it and to support those who have been affected by it. By working together, we can create a safer and more positive online environment for everyone.
