KARACHI:
I went to purchase some medicines for my mother who is a diabetes patient. As always, many medicines are not available at the medical stores. Some generic medicines are widely available, but doctors continue prescribing specific tablets or capsules. Do doctors receive compensation from pharmaceutical companies for this? Why are almost all sectors engaged in some form of negative activity?
For the past month, we have not been able to find insulin Humulin. It appears as if another alternative product needs to be marketed due to which production of this particular brand of insulin has been stopped. This shows that even pharmaceutical companies are engaged in malpractices disregarding the health and safety of patients. We have seen the same happening with many other essential medicines including syrups, injections and ointments that are removed from stores to market other products.
Poor implementation of laws and a lack of accountability have allowed such practices to continue. I request the concerned authorities to address these issues. We are all answerable to Allah Kareem. What will you say there? Many people have already lost their lives and many more lives will be lost if we fail to alleviate these practices.
