KARACHI:
Wahi Pandhi, the largest city in the Johi taluka of the Dadu district, serves as an entrance to the Gorakh hill station. The main road connecting Wahi Pandhi to Johi has been lying in a poor state since the monsoon season. It is becoming increasingly difficult to drive on the potholed road.
Similarly, traffic jams have become a regular occurrence in Hyderabad due to the narrow and congested roads. Even though most places are located in close proximity, it takes hours to get to one place from another. At times, patients requiring immediate assistance are unable to reach the hospital in time due to traffic bottlenecks.
In the absence of a mass transit system coupled with a growing number of vehicles on the roads, the traffic situation will progressively worsen in all densely populated cities of the country. In addition to launching a sustainable and affordable mass transit system, the federal and provincial governments should repair roads and urge hawkers and pushcarts to avoid encroaching on roads.
