Sports in Balochistan

Letter January 11, 2023
Sports in Balochistan

KARACHI:

Across Balochistan, children and teenagers can be found playing cricket, football, and other sports on the streets and playgrounds. Many of them have immense talent and potential but few opportunities to showcase their abilities. Educational institutes do not have the budgets to arrange sports competitions or tournaments in which students can participate.

Although some individuals have tried to coach and facilitate the youth in different sports, they lack the resources and experience to help the youth participate in national tournaments. National teams for different sports do not arrange recruitment camps and other facilities in the province. Resultantly, despite being talented, the Baloch youth are unable to gain a position in national teams due to a lack of training and strength.

The disregard for Baloch youth is depriving them of the ability to utilise their full potential and perform on a national and international level. I urge the relevant federations and boards to launch training and coaching facilities across the province. The players should be recruited for local cricket and football tournaments and provided with assistance so that they can pursue a career in these sports. The Baloch youth should not be left behind and allowed to represent the country on an international level.
