KARACHI:
Many individuals working for government organisations and other public offices do not have registered number plates for their vehicles. These vehicles are regularly used by officers and their families across the country. If they get into an accident, they can avoid facing any consequences because their vehicles cannot be tracked.
Government organisations are not exempt from registering their vehicles. Therefore, all ministries should ensure that all staff vehicles are registered and have proper number plates. The Traffic Police and Customs authorities should strictly ensure that all vehicles on the roads are registered and have proper number plates.
Registered and homogenous number plates will ensure that no citizen is above the other. The rest of the public should not feel as though a handful of individuals are given special treatment. Importantly, registered number plates help identify the owner of the vehicles in case of emergencies. Therefore, the government must rigorously implement the laws on vehicle registration and must avoid giving special privileges to a few public officeholders.
