Crimes in twin cities

Letter January 08, 2023

RAWALPINDI:

A decade ago, the residents of twin cities lived a peaceful life. Incidents of crimes were seldom reported, and the police forces were usually quick to trace the criminals and take them into custody. However, in recent years, the situation has drastically worsened as is evident by the sudden spike in street crimes and robberies.

Snatching mobile phones, wallets, and other valuables at gunpoint have become increasingly common in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Citizens constantly find themselves fearing for their lives and belongings. Although criminals target their victims indiscriminately, students are particularly vulnerable to such crimes. Many people are already living hand to mouth amid the worsening economic situation. These incidents are further adding to their financial woes.

Unfortunately, in the past year, street crimes and robberies have risen across the country. The relevant authorities, particularly the police force must take concrete measures to trace criminals and recover people’s belongings. The residents should not have to live in a constant state of fear and panic. Thus, law enforcement agencies must act in earnest to restore safety and security in the twin cities as well as all other cities of the country.
