KARACHI:
There are nearly seventy villages in the tehsil Dasht of district Kech. Most of the villages are heavily populated, yet the residents are deprived of basic amenities including a lack of access to clean and potable water, poor infrastructure, etc. Children across Dasht do not have access to basic education due to the negligence of the authorities.
Even though some buildings have been designated to be used as schools, they are lying empty due to the absence of school administration and faculty. Most residents belong to a low-income group and cannot afford to send their children to Turbat or Gwadar for schooling. However, this does not mean that their children should be entirely robbed of their right to an education. Education grooms and nurtures individuals to become better human beings and allows students to improve their prospects. Therefore, the students in Dasht must be provided with primary and secondary education so that they can undertake exams and escape the poverty trap.
The provincial government should take notice of the issue urgently and must act to meet the educational needs of Dasht’s residents. School buildings should be rebuilt and equipped with all the necessary items including water and sanitation. The educational department should be responsible for hiring competent administration and faculty in all schools. Teachers should not be overburdened, and school curriculums should be updated so that students can keep pace with the rest of the country. The government must protect the futures of hundreds of children.
