KARACHI:
Globally, science has become an important endeavour because of its contributions to human health and disease, addressing environmental challenges, improving communication between individuals, etc. Investment and innovation in science have boosted many countries’ potential and allowed economies to grow.
Science generates solutions for daily issues and improves knowledge of universal mysteries. It has become an important channel of knowledge and a source of improving the quality of human life. Therefore, many countries have prioritised the discipline making it a compulsory part of the educational curriculum. Unfortunately, the Pakistani education system has failed to improve the teaching and learning of the subject. Most schools have not updated their curriculums and are using outdated coursebooks. This is hampering the country’s ability to expand scientific knowledge and information. Students are unaware of the use and importance of science and technology in today’s world.
Considering that science has become increasingly important in responding to societal needs and global challenges, we must update our curriculums and improve understanding and engagement with science. Relevant government departments should work with educational institutes to invest in science and expand the country’s potential so that we can keep pace with the rest of the world.
