Marking criteria

Marking criteria

KARACHI:

In recent years, candidates have raised concerns over the marking criteria of Central Superior Services (CSS) examinations by the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC). This year, my friend who undertook the exam informed me that he calculated his marks on the multiple-choice questions (MCQs) exam, but the result did not match his calculation.

In the past, FPSC concentrated on the English (Precis and Composition) exam specifically. Now it appears that they have changed their criteria and are prioritising other subjects as well. However, candidates have not been informed of any changes, which has left many unsuccessful candidates angry and dejected. Many are now questioning the credibility of the commission and the legitimacy of the marking.

Perhaps, the FPSC should revise its marking criteria and inform candidates about the criteria prior to the exam. There should be more examiners than one, marking papers to cross-check and root out any discrepancies. All aspirants put in a lot of hard work in preparing for the exam. Therefore, their efforts must not go in vain, and their futures should not be jeopardised due to the negligence of a few. FPSC should maintain a standardised and fair marking criterion.
