Teacher’s education service

Teacher’s education service

KARACHI:

Around the world, many universities have introduced the ‘Teacher Education Service’ as a separate course to train students interested in pursuing teaching as a career. Although programmes vary in different institutes and countries, they largely include training and informing prospective teachers about policies and procedures as well as helping shape students’ attitudes, behaviours, approaches, and methodologies. Prospective teachers are also required complete internships or work experience so that they are fully prepared for the job once they graduate.

Since the pandemic, digital technologies have become a crucial part of teaching. Therefore, in many countries, teachers are now also provided with additional training on the use of digital devices. Unfortunately, Pakistan is still lagging in training and facilitating teachers. Due to this, our education system continues to suffer because teachers are unable to fulfil their jobs adequately. Considering that teachers play an important role in inculcating knowledge and skills among students, we need to introduce teacher education services and other training courses.

Besides reforming the curriculum, teachers should be informed of new methodologies such as cooperative learning, project-based learning, etc. Modern concepts such as the use of computers must also be incorporated into teaching. The education department must realise that teachers’ skills have a significant impact on the development of students. Therefore, the department should work with educational institutes to launch training programmes for teachers. Universities should introduce degree courses for individuals who want to pursue teaching as a career. These measures are crucial for improving the quality of education in the country.
