Rising street crimes

Rising street crimes

KARACHI:

Street crimes are not a new phenomenon in Karachi, but in the last few months, street crimes and robberies have increased at an alarming pace. The snatchers are not only robbing citizens of their belongings but their lives as well. The robbers have continued their crimes unabated as the police have failed to trace and convict them. Most culprits are released by the court within a few days.

Many believe that the sudden spike in street crimes is a direct consequence of rising inflation and unemployment. People have grown frustrated with the unending economic crisis and resorted to crimes to support their livelihoods. Consequently, bandits are killing the people of Karachi indiscriminately for resisting robberies.

Citizens are not safe anywhere at any time of the day. Unfortunately, even the police have been victimised by robbers. The citizens are left to protect their lives and belongings themselves. I request the provincial government to utilise the services of police and rangers to protect the lives and property of the people of Karachi. If they fail to take concrete measures urgently, the situation will spiral out of control.
