Violent behaviours

KARACHI:

Nowadays, verbal and physical abuse has become increasingly common among the youth. Teenagers lose all composure and resort to physical fighting during petty arguments. Cyberbullying, which mainly includes harassment, and abuse on social media platforms have also risen. Many teenagers, particularly girls become targets of cyberbullies. Cyberbullies often turn to unlawful and criminal behaviour by threatening victims and extorting money from them.

Some people suggest that the increase in violent and abusive tendencies among the youth has stemmed from the normalisation of violent behaviour and language in pop culture. Aggressive behaviour is considered trendy, but it has become a serious concern and resulted in many dangerous situations. Individuals who adopt violent behaviours are unable to respond to situations in a calm and collected manner. Whilst those who become targets of abuse or violence may experience trauma, low self-esteem, and anxiety.

We regularly come across news of fights among students at educational institutes. At times, these fights result in serious injuries or fatalities. Educational institutes should implement strict punishments to prevent students from bullying or fighting. Parents must stay vigilant of their children’s activities. They should specifically limit or control younger children’s exposure to violent or harmful content to prevent grave consequences.
