KARACHI:
For the last several months, robberies and theft incidents have been surging across the capital. Robbers have stolen dozens of vehicles, mobile phones, and other valuables in different localities of Islamabad.
Within my locality, many residents have been victimised by mobile and wallet snatchers. The police’s inability to catch or trace the culprits and little to no consequences have allowed the culprits to continue their crimes unabashedly. This has increased fear and insecurity among the citizens. It is worth mentioning that university students who live in hostels find themselves at a greater risk.
The police officials need to do more than just offer victims consolation and reassurance. With the help of victims’ complaints, the police must try to trace the culprits. Otherwise, the culprits will become bold and continue threatening locals. The capital administrative authorities and the police should work together to restore law and order in the city.
