KARACHI:
Throughout 2022 Pakistan faced many internal and external challenges. One of which is the ongoing political crisis, which started with the ouster of Former Prime Minister Imran Khan in March. Initially, Imran Khan claimed that a foreign conspiracy was hatched to remove him from power. However, recently, he reverted from his foreign conspiracy argument. Khan has completely ignored his mismanagement, poor governance, and the state of the economy during his tenure. He is instead demanding early elections to return to power as he has gathered significant support.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) that came to power to reduce inflation has failed to steer the economy out of the political and economic crisis. The floods further compounded its’ challenges as millions of people require relief and the economy has suffered significant losses because of the floods. The worsening security in parts of the country is yet another problem that PDM is struggling to address.
Both the opposition and the government have once again shown that they are not interested in resolving the public’s issues or putting the country on the path of recovery or growth. They come to power for their selfish gains and fail to form a long-term strategy to address the country’s challenges. Without political stability, the socio-economic issues of the country will remain unresolved. Politicians must settle their issues through dialogue and work towards the welfare of the state and its citizens.
