KARACHI:
Learning and maintaining the ability to retain knowledge is crucial at all levels of education. Learning processes including emotional, social, and cognitive processes focus on in-depth learning. Nowadays, educational psychology has become the backbone of testing and assessment methodologies in both teaching and training. The application of educational psychology in a learning environment has been a source of motivation for learning and overcoming the behavioural problems that may hamper learning.
Although educational psychology is a specialised field, it is necessary to introduce it to students and researchers involved in studying and exploring diversified areas rather than restricting it to psychology or teachers’ training. Training in educational psychology is essential to produce successful professionals with solid methodological skills, an understanding of topics that can be explored, effectively communicating, work with a wider variety of experts, and the flare to comprehend and overcome indistinctness in the work environment.
In Pakistan, psychology and education are well-established in teaching and research in universities. The experts in the fields should work together to develop educational psychology to introduce the subject as a minor to all pure, applied, and social sciences disciplines and work on a dedicated long-term degree program in the field. Such a pioneering step will help students serve as learning analysts and program evaluators and become skilful consumers and producers of research to address educational challenges. With diversified expertise, properly trained people are more likely to find positions in research institutions, schools, governmental organisations, and NGOs striving to improve educational settings.
