Winter hardships

Winter hardships

KARACHI:

Surging inflation and low incomes have made it extremely difficult for the citizens of Turbat to meet their daily needs. An absence of employment opportunities and a lack of mobility have limited people’s options to earn and improve their livelihoods. This has increased frustration and despair among Turbat’s population compelling many people to take drastic measures such as committing suicide.

The youth has become hopeless and resorted to drug abuse and other illegal activities because they have nothing to look forward to. With the start of the winter season, people are faced with renewed problems due to the gas crisis as well as their inability to afford warm clothing and blankets. Recently, a video circulated on social media wherein a father earning Rs700 a day could not afford a jacket for his son as prices of warm clothes are skyrocketing.

I urge the federal and provincial governments to take notice of the plight of the poor segments of society and facilitate them so that they can heave a sigh of relief. The Balochistan government should support the citizens of Turbat by improving infrastructure in the district to attract business activity and create employment opportunities.
