KARACHI:
The human resources (HR) leader is required to recruit a competent employee. But, it is equally important for the same HR leader to promote employee well-being in an organisation. Employees’ good performance is what ultimately leads to the success of a company. Thus, HR leaders should prioritise the well-being of employees because if employees are unsatisfied with the work environment, it will affect their productivity and ultimately the company.
HR leaders emphasise the importance of good physical health when discussing employee wellbeing. However, they must realise that emotional and financial well-being and good mental health are also crucial. Thus, HR must either offer free counselling sessions by professionals or introduce a 24/7 helpline for employees to reach out to. The HR can also conduct interactive sessions with employees to discuss any issues that must be affecting them. Implementing strict policies on workplace harassment and bullying can create a more empathetic and compassionate culture. Including employees in the decision-making process and showing concern for employees can also have a positive impact.
Even if employees are working for financial gain, a good work environment can help win their loyalty. Much of the time employees resign from jobs due to a lack of appreciation and rewards. Therefore, HR should adopt the responsibility of praising employees for their performance. Small perks in the form of fringe benefits or monetary rewards will compel employees to commit to the organisation. The HR leaders should acknowledge the significance of employee emotional and mental well-being at the workplace as it has a positive impact on employees’ productivity and efficiency. Organisations that protect both the physical and mental health of employees are more likely to achieve their organisational goals.
