KARACHI:
Historically, most Pakistani leaders have claimed the achievements of others and blamed their failures on their predecessors. Very few have accepted their failures or taken responsibility for their poor decisions. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan has constantly denied his failures and has either blamed his predecessors or the state institutions.
Initially, Khan claimed that the current Chief Election Commissioner was appointed on merit. However, when the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced that the PTI received illegal funding, Khan and other PTI members downplayed the verdict and claimed that this was a part of PDM’s propaganda. Back when Khan was in power, he would repeatedly say that NAB is an independent institution, but after his ouster, he claims that NAB was beyond his control. Now PTI members have also blamed the Anti-Narcotics Force for registering a baseless case against Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. Imran Khan should follow the due procedure for cases instead of dismissing claims and blaming other state institutions for filing cases.
The former Prime Minister must accept that his ouster was a result of a democratic and constitutional process. He should admit that he made mistakes during his tenure and work on his political campaign instead of furthering political chaos in the country. If Khan wants to return to power, he must own his failures and express his willingness to rectify his mistakes if he is re-elected.
