Road accidents

Road accidents

KARACHI:

Although Balochistan’s infrastructure has been reconstructed over the year, the new infrastructure has increased the number of road accidents to an alarming level. Narrow highways, poor safety, absence of traffic signals, and few emergency services have become a major cause of fatal accidents across the province.

According to estimates, at least 20 accidents occur daily. Speeding vehicles and violation of traffic rules have further aggravated the problem. Despite being aware of the plight of the citizens, politicians have turned a blind eye to the situation. The opposition has politicised the issue to blame the government for its negligence, but no one takes action to resolve the issue.

Within the last few years, tens of thousands of people have been killed and injured in traffic accidents across Balochistan. The provincial government should reconstruct roads to ensure that they are safe for travel and install lights and signals to improve visibility at night.
